Another 5am day, but work wasn't taking a vacation, so neither was I. By the time Paige woke up, I had been very productive and we enjoyed a late breakfast at the hotel. It was now time for ome shopping at Columbia for a few clothing items for her Africa trip. Then, she headed to REI, while I went back to the hotel to finish up work. Both REI and Columbia are native Seattle companies, so it is great that she can get most of what she needs from the two!
We had lunch reservations at the Space Needle, and grabbed the Monorail from downtown to the Seattle Center. The trip takes 90 seconds and is a very convenient way to travel the 12 blocks. The Seattle Center was created for the 1962 Worlds Fair, and houses many iconic venues such as the Space Needle, Key Arena (where the Sonics used to play), Experience Music Project (EPM) and the Science Center. We were lucky, as it was sunny and beautiful.so the view from the Needle was incredible. However, no matter how nice it was...we still couldn't see the Mountain (aka Mt Rainier). The food was very good and we enjoyed two rotations of the restaurant, so got the full view.
At the base of the Needle is the Chihuly Glass Garden. http://www.chihulygardenandglass.com/
Dale Chihuly is an amazing glass artist from Seattle and the garden is a beautiful way to exhibit his works. With the nice weather, it was the perfect way to experience the glass art.
We walked to the water and found the Victoria Clipper office to pick up our tickets for our trip to Victoria on Friday. One of Paige's activity requests was the ferris wheel on the water. I am not a huge fan of heights or amusement rides, but agreed to go and enjoyed it! Once again we had great views, with the sun shining across the water.
It was time for me to get back to work and Paige did some more wandering around the market and shops. Before picking Ken up that evening, I was able to enjoy dinner with my sister Janis, niece Sydney and their friend Ross. Paige took advantage of a free night to hit the gym, hot tub and pool. Ken arrived right on time from Anchorage, and we headed back to the hotel to get ready for an early morning wake-up call for the Victoria Clipper.
