Thought should put in another update apologies for not keeping it as up to date as previously!
Am now in Koh Tao after thee worst journey of my life (that is saying something after the buses of Vietnam and Cambodia) but that overnight boat to Koh Tao tops every horrendous method if transport! The 9hour trip didn't really get off to the best of starts as "bus" (i use that term loosely) that picked us up form Phuket was nothing more than a glorified van which we spent around 5hours in (could cope with that however but did leave us questioning what like the boat would be) after having some dinner of KFC (we did try to find local food but got all confuddeld haha) got put on the back of an open van and driven to the port where we had a 3 hour wait before boarding our boat! Once inside the boat (the pictures need to be seen to be believed haha) we got into our "bed" hahaha and hoped that sea wouldn't be too rough (stupidly we thought Gulf of Thailand def wont be rough) about an hour into the journey what felt like hell on earth began! One minute could see the moon and stars next minute thought boat was going to sink into the waves! This went on for the rest of the night. The Gulf of Thailand resembled more the North Sea in December (and there is no way the boat we were in would be used on the North Sea!!). Trying to get sleep would have been like trying to sleep on the wolrd's largest rollercoaster! The 9hours felt like 9 years and even now am writing this but still struggling with motion sickness! Me and Carmel both vowed that although we are now island hoping no more night boats or long journeys they def need to be broken up!
Before the night of sea terror had be lapping up the sunshine in Phuket! Stayed at Karon Beach down the south of Phuket island. Didn't get off to the best of starts in Phuket either rhaha as flight was delayed leaving Bangkok so never arrived at guesthouse until 2am! Found one that was open not the nicest one ever haha so moved around the corner the next morning once we had our bearings! Phuket def isnt the picture postcard image everyone has of Thailand and after Koh Rong in Cambodia was left a bit disappointed by the beach (resembled more Benidorm beach in the height of season). Phuket is def the package tour area of Asia (think this is the backpacker in me now speaking haha) but was full fo families and old men (wonder what they were after haha and Phuket would def have catered for their tastes). Karon beach def did grow on me by the end of my time in Phuket but there def is nicer places in Thailand to visit than Phuket, with its go-go bar littered streets!
Well this blog is getting a bit moany eh? Apologies hahaha.
On the plus note me and Carmel are in Koh Toa to do our PADI open water diving certification! Really excited about starting it tomorrow (should have been today but are in no fit state haha). its a 4 day course with 4 open water doves after pool training! So should hopefully come home fully qualified to dive in the open water!! Not that muhc of that will be happening in Scotland haha will save it for South America!
After here plans are pretty unclear really (backpacking + planning = chaos haha) thinking heading to Ko Samui next to extend visa then meeting up with Tom, Rich and Mel hopefully in Krabi! Before deciding where next!
Love
