After Rotorua, we drove around the Coromandel peninsula. Disappointed with the east side as too much logging but west side very pretty. More rain overnight but OK this am.
Drove right up to Kaitaia, booked a trip to Cape Reinga, the most northerly point on N island for next day. Went to Ahipora to a beautiful beach for tea and a long walk before bed. Coach tour to Cape Reinga next day. Drove north along 90 mile beach, saw buried car in the quicksand as above and did sand sledging down giant sand dune. Great fun but realised we are getting a bit older, as we didnt fancy climbing up a 2nd time, even though it was great fun! Some people didnt even make it once!
saw the lighthouse, where the Tasman sea meets the Pacific ocean. Had lunch and lots of walks around pretty coves with views over the ocean.
After the tour , we drove on to Kerikeri and here we are waiting for the rain to stop again to do the cruise around the bay of Islands. Forecast good for tomorrow!
We are still laughing, despite the odd bit of rain!
