Day 13 Marree to William creek via the Oodnadatta track. Then onwards to Coober Pedy. Travelled along the old Telegraph line and the old Ghan train line (last train 1980). Left Marree which as Michael said calling it a one horse town is an insult to the horse. General store, post office and pub. Originally the point along the Ghan where the narrow gauge railway from Alice Springs in the North switched to standard gauge to travel to Port Augusta in the South...

Currently staying in a cabin in Maree, South Australia due to the risk of rain tonight. Tomorrow, heading to William Creek 200 km along the Oodnadatta Track. Expected to get there either tomorrow or Wednesday evening.

Day 12 Left Wilpena heading north after stocking up on water. Hit a kangaroo in the car the morning. Don't think it survived but no damage to the car. Travelled north to Lyndhurst which marked the end of the sealed bitumen roads. Some gravel roads and muddy in places led to Marree which is the start of the Oodnadatta track. Day 10 Skytrek 4WD track through Willow Springs, a 70,000 acre sheep station in Flinders Ranges. Thanks to Kieran and Tracy for getting this for Michael for his 30th. 63km and 6 hours of tough (and steep!) but very good 4 wheel driving. Bottomed out a few times on dry creek bed crossings. Day 9 Checked out the Outback Centre in Port Augusta before doing the short drive (2hrs) to Wilpena in the Flinders Ranges where we set up camp. In the afternoon did an off road trail through the impressive Brachina Gorge which traverses 150 million years of geological history in 20km. This crosses what was once an inland sea bed and the further west, the newer the sedimentary deposits become. Earth crustal movements and ice ages forced these rocks to the surf...
