Day 45
Headed NE from Bourke along an unsealed road into Hebel, just over the Queensland border. Along this hour or so's drive saw the highest density of wildlife so far... kangaroo, wallaby, emu, fox, wild pig, cows, sheep, goats and lots of geese and birds. Managed to get through without hitting anything in our car which was quite a feat given the number darting out in front of us.
As we had stopped before in Hebel Michael was keen to go back to have the 'Bushman's Bug Brekkie' at the cafe/general store/post office/pharmacy/caravan park. He was not dissapointed and polished off the breakfast which contained 3 eggs, 3 sausages, 3 bacon, steak, 2 slices of toast and a tomato!
Drove on through the Queensland towns of Dirrambandi, St. George, Surat and Roma before crossing the bridge into Miles. The bridge was submerged in the December floods which devastated much of Southern Queensland.
After the long drive we arrived with my cousin Paula and her family in the early evening and were treated to tasty roast beef dinner.
Little Darcy wouldn't go to sleep and kept his dad up to late, despite Sean having to leave for work at 4:30am. Aussies get up really early compared to us.
Overnight: Paula's house, Miles
Distance: 713km
