Today we took the train from Fort William to Edinburgh. We have been lucky that the days we needed to travel didn't coincide with two train strikes in Scotland. It was a long day of traveling as the train route was quite circuitous to get to Edinburgh. We had pre booked our seats on the train so we were able to travel together. It was a bit drizzly today so decided to walk into town (3.2kms) to the tourist bureau and then decide what we might do. I think motivation was a bit lacking today so lunch and a walk to the Fort ruins and the museum were the order of the day. We then walked back to our accommodation. After dinner we went for a walk along the Loch. It doesn't get dark until about 11pm so no lack of daylight. Packed our bags ready for departure tomorrow to Edinburgh.

Today we climbed Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK at 1344m. We waited to catch a bus for our hotel into Fort William and then onto Glen Nevis but no bus arrived. A man coming out of his driveway across the road asked if we wanted a lift which we accepted. He is a youth worker in Fort William working with youth suicide. The day started out grey and bleak and didn't really improve. Our check out time was 11am but our train to Fort William didn't arrive until 1:30pm so we took our suitcases to the train station and took it in turns to mind the luggage and go for a walk. We climbed Ben Lomand today which is over 3195ft. The walk up was similar to Bluff Knoll but the descent was longer. (Circular route). Any mountain over 3000ft is called a Munro. Named after the first surveyor of Scotland. Between 2500 and 2999ft they are called Corbetts. Ben = mountain. Loch = lake. We got the start of the walk by ferry and returned the same way.
