After Tintagel we drove to Taunton to drop off the hire car and to catch the train to Bath. This was a fast train (110mph) terminating, with a few limited stops, in Edinburgh. And so it was that Gavin's backpack (and wallet and other assorted items) went speeding off on its own to Scotland on its own adventure. With a lot of luck (not mentioning stress) I was able to find my way to someone who rang ahead to the next stop which was only 10 minutes away in time for...

Tintagel is a town in Cornwall with very tenuous links to King Arthur and the legend of the round table. But it keeps tourists flocking in, and the ruins are interesting even if they aren't related to King Arthur.

Port Isaac is the town in Cornwall where Doc Martin is filmed. It has amazing narrow lanes and interesting little buildings. It was impossible to identify which houses were used in the show as the town is actually quite large. The port itself was much the same.

Today Di and I hired Mountain Bikes and rode from one side of Cornwall to the other starting at the Atlantic Ocean at Portreith and finishing at the English Channel at Devoran. We then rode back. It was an interesting track, passing through disused Tin Mines on the way. Riding hire bikes makes us value our own bikes! The boys went kayaking from Falmouth with a Cornwall Company. They were out on the water for about 6hrs. They both enjoyed the day.

Lands End is the most western part of the British Isles. Unfortunately, the cliffs are too dangerous to enable us to dip our toes in the water so we enjoyed the view instead. Many ships have sunk here as there are 2 reefs close to the top of the land. Today, a lighthouse sounds a warning every 30 seconds when it's misty or dark.
