Our Global Gallivants
I'm not sure if it was jet lag, or excitement about going to Angkor Wat today, but I woke up at 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Dave is sick with a cold and didn't sleep well either. We did have a good breakfast in the hotel, though. We hired our own driver and tour guide to visit the temples. Our tour started at 8:30 and went straight to Angkor Wat. I was not disappointed, but surprised that you are allowed to walk pretty much anywhere you like and step on whatever you like. They have the unsafe areas roped off, but otherwise you're allowed free reign. There are some security people in place to make sure you stay back from the Buddha statues. I totally loved the temples. Dave liked Bayon with all the Buddha faces the best, whereas I loved Ta Prohm where Raiders of the lost ark was filmed. Unfortunately, the tree roots that make this place so cool are also the reason why it's falling apart. The tree roots are growing into the sandstone and splitting it. One thing nice about this tour company was the ice cold cloths they give you and the cold water to drink. It was 32 degrees today under a cloudy sky. Steps on the tracker-6800
