See those peaks behind the hotel where we spent the night? That was where we were headed for, just the other side! Getting to Sequoia from Lone Pine was, as we planned, a long day. Same story as going up on the other side and that is 4 hours on the GPS meant 8 hours driving. But the scenery was well worth it. We stopped at the visitors center going out. I told the ranger that we were going to the Giant Forest and didn't realize that you couldn't get there from here. He said it happens quite often. I inquired about Mr. Whitney and told me he could show it to me from there. We walked over to a glass wall and saw the peaks. He had a picture in front of us that was the replica of what we were looking at and named each peak. There she was in all her glory! But because of the distance, Lone Pine Peak looked bigger! We thought briefly of driving the 20 minutes to the viewing spot to get a closer look but dropped that in favor of getting on the road to Sequoia. We drove south and rounded Lake Isabella and then started up the western side of the park to get to the entrance. I drove about 3 hours on those twisty turney roads. Signs that had curves posted at 10 mph and meant it! 9% grades that meant you'd better pump your brakes or burn them up! And on the other hand, you had to get up a little speed to make it up the curves that went the other way! And then around one of them curves or dips were some big red trees! And signs! We were entering the giant forest!
