Ash-Arrived in Ayutthaya today after an uncomfortable 2 and a half hour train journey north, decided to get 3rd class tickets due to price and the opportunity to sit with the locals! Countless people trying to sell us things and corrupt/dodgy police taking money off people if there bags were too big! Luckily we were not asked to pay up for our backpacks. Arrived at the hostel had some dinner and headed straight out to see some sights, we decided a bicycle would be our choice of transport, Thankfully the roads are not as crazy as they are in Bangkok, Although D did her best to get knocked off by nearly moving into the path of an oncoming truck. After visiting the 19 meter high Buddha at Wat phanan Choeng we moved onto the elephant sanctuary and the floating markets, Along with the elephants we were able to see a Tiger, a couple of ostriches and a Camel. We are both enjoying it here so far and are looking forward to taking the bicycles into the city centre tomorrow to see the old city ruins.
D Update- last night we were told not to venture out of the hostel due to there being large packs of aggressive dogs about in the area. We were shocked to hear this as every dog we had seen that day had not bothered with us at all. Later on that night we realised the man who had been telling us these stories was infant crazy. This morning we got up early and took our bikes over to the city via the make shift ferry just outside our hostel and cycled around the historical park, visiting Wat Phra Mahathat- a sand stone Budda head lying mysteriously tangled within a trees roots. As well as plenty more temples and ruins finishing at The Old Royal Palace. After a really good day seeing the sites and both catching the sun we headed out for some traditional Thai food at Lung Leks noodle emporium- extremely yummy! Looking forward to moving on to our next hostel back in bangkok now as struggling with a single fan in our room. Desperately needing air con!
