Felt like real VIPs as we got our 6 hour bus ride from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong - we now really do appreciate a little luxury and this bus was 5 star! (Or seemed as much based on what we have experienced in the last few weeks) regular food and drink included, beautiful air conditioning, the biggest, comfiest, cream leather reclining seats with head rest and all! Thai movies and our own waiter dressed in a smart suit, I (D) was even referred to as 'Miss'- Pure luxury. We really have been denied all of this it seems for a long time - and yes we are still on a tight budget. Once we arrived super refreshed we had to get our first on land visa (to Laos) ..wow what a mission! After a lot of confusion on our part we arrived by long tail boat from the Mekong River in Huay Xai, Laos.
We love Huay Xai it is so peaceful, staying in Friendship Guesthouse for £3 a night each. Spotless rooms with unbeatable views of the Mekong, not much to do here but the slow pace of the people and things in general is so refreshing from the busy cities of Thailand.
Booking 'The Gibbon Experience' while we are here which is essentially a series of navigable zip lines crisscrossing the canopy of Laos fantastic Bokeo Nature Reserve.
Out of action now for 3 days will update when we return from the jungle.
The photo- watching the sunset from our veranda in the guest house. In the distance the Mekong and Thailand!
