Another fantastic day at Lawn Hill NP today. We hired two canoes for a couple of hours and explored the gorge. Jacob, Caitlyn and Joel were in one and Angie and I were in the other. We have arrived (yesterday) in Lawn Hill NP. Lawn Hill is a place that we have been looking forward to visiting for months! It certainly is like an oasis rising out of the desert. The road here was dusty and with its fair share of corrugations. Spent the morning looking at the sites around mount Isa. This included the Riversleigh fossil museum. The museum has some life size models of diprotidons, marsupial lions and giant kangaroos. There were several fossils out to look at including mega birds and diprotodonts (small diprotodons :) The display gave us a good taste of what we will see at Lawn Hill. Another day of dinosaur museums for the morning - at Kronosaurus Corner in Richmond. This one specialised in the marine reptiles from 100 million years ago. It was another worthwhile visit to see the actual fossils of Kronosaurs, ichysaurs and plesiosaurs all found around Richmond. Another drive saw us hitting the mining town of mount Isa. We packed up camp today and headed to the Age of Dinosaurs museum. It was a fantastic place. The museum is situated on top of a Jump-up (large rocky outcrop on the flat plains. The view was speculated and we could just make out the curvature of the Earth. The museum tour consisted of first going to the lab (shed) and looking at all the dinosaur fossils being cleaned up for display and then we went into a bit of their collections and got to see Matilda (sauropod) ...
