A retreat from the beaches into the jungle. Directly east of our last island is the oldest evergreen rainforest in the world, Khao Sok national park. Hopeful to see a bit of Thai wildlife, and this place didn't disappoint. We were woken each morning to the sound of buzzing and clicking insects and the gibbons' morning chorus.

This place was obviously a place for tweekers (2 weeker holidayers) as the prices for walking tours through the jungle, or a few hours kayaking on the river were definitely our of our £30 budget! This didn't stop us exploring the area by ourselves though. The days were spent in walking boots (a novelty in itself) quietly trekking through the jungle trying to spot as much wildlife as we could. After seeing a sign saying there were often elephants 100m from the path we had quite high expectations though!! Sadly no signs of elephants but we did have fish nibbling our feet in the river, long tailed macaques swinging through the trees with their babies over head, tree frogs watching us swim, golden orb web spiders happily spinning and spectacled langurs feasting on bamboo 5 metres from us.

We must have gone for a dip to cool down at virtually every opportunity in the crystal clear river. That's a lot of toes to dry off before putting feet back into socks and boots.

A short but lovely trip here. Could have stayed longer if money had allowed. Alas... Onto to Malaysia!
