Reluctant to stay in the earthquake city for more than necessary we decided to spend the day chilling at lake Ellesmere just outside of town. En route to the lake, we stopped off in Geraldine for some sandwiches in the camper and at the local ice creamery come cheesery for a tub of delight. Bryn's choice - honey and fig and mine - nectarine and muscavado. Suitably contented we moseyed onward, ooooing over the longest bridge in new Zealand (2 very controlled breaths long) and arrived at our lakeside spot to soak in the sunshine and read books before migrating to the van to enjoy the sunset in the semi warmth.
A final camp fire gave our almost newly washed clothes that lovely smokey smell back and our potentially last full night in New Zealand was complete.
