Christmas is finally starting to be evident in Asia!!!! I know when you're in England it's a bit annoying when the Christmas adverts start in October but starting on December the 8th is definitely too late...i'm excited for goodness sake!
Spent a rocky couple of hours on a sea ferry bringing us to Penang's main town, Georgetown which was some what of a monstrosity in comparison to the towns of late. Towering English and French colonial buildings and hostel after hostel.
Despite Penang apparently being an Island we didn't actually get out to the beach. We did however look out onto it from the top of Penang hill. The funicular railway took us up the 45 degree incline and despite the rain we got a pretty wicked view out over Georgetown, the sea and the main Coastline of Malaysia.
Georgetown was a great town just to wander around, look at the buildings and impressive graffiti art, pop into coffee houses and enjoy some pretty beautiful street food. There's a big Indian population in the town and little India was pretty much our choice of location for every meal, not just because of the great food but also the exiting atmosphere... Loud Indian music, people wearing beautiful colours and the smell of a cracking curry. Chicken tandoori and naan is somehow going to have to star in the cook book but not having a tandoori oven at home might make it somewhat difficult to replicate.
Another very exciting stop coming up next: Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur! Yippee! I am hopeful that KL will deliver some wicked cheese cake from a special tea shop called secret recipe. I have been hunting for this since we arrived in S.E.A. (bryn is getting pretty tired of this unsuccessful hunting game. I'm guessing he'll be thanking me later though!).
