New country! Yay! Malaysia for a few weeks before back to Thailand for Christmas.
Easy start to Langkawi, simple taxi ride at a fixed price, straight to a hostel which had a cheap room and straight onto the white sand beach. 1st experience of a Muslim beach...weird. Women wear clothes to sunbathe and swim fully clothed too, although maybe that was protection from the football sized jelly fish that were washed up.
Bryn had been the most exited about trying Malaysian food out of every other Asian country and the food on Langkawi didn't disappoint either of us. Roti canais, rendang curry, tandooris and naan was a choice of Malaysian/Indian cuisine. Rendang is on its way into Bryn's traveling cook book. Incidentally he now has colouring pencils and everything for this cook book!
We've pretty much got a moped out in every country so far and this moped on Langkawi has to have been the most un-MOT-worthy. No horn. No indicators. Horn starts beeping frantically every so often (slightly embarrassing when your in a jam). No back break. And a right side pull bearing you onto the wrong side of the road. We were pretty pleased to hand in the keys with the bike safely in one piece.
Cable car up the mountain on the island involved a 3 hour queue (we had been warned to come early so only ourselves to blame when we rocked up at 11am). The ride up was fully worth it though. Bryn is definitely testing his fear of heights on this trip. Especially as the next day we went tandem parasailing which must have taken us up about 100m in a pretty dodgy looking harness and parachute! Parasailing was a special treat from uncle John for my birthday... Thanks John.
A really nice 3 days introduction to Malaysia, and getting a boat onto Penang today.
