For the last time... Good Morning Vietnam!!!
Travel days are not something I look forward to but today was a slight exception as it involved an aeroplane!
Although against our rules of using a plane for inner Asia transport we had no choice; In 1 hour we would be in Bangkok with a free 30 day visa.
We left the hotel at 7am in Saigon for breakfast and onto the airport for 8am.
We checked in with little style. We were the people I hate; bags open at the check in desk, pulling heavy items out and shoving them into our hand luggage in order to save some money on the baggage allowance. With 4kg removed we were able to check in both bags under one name, costing us $30 rather than the previous situation of $60.
Eventually into departures and through a small delay of 30mins on take off time and we were up in the air. Empty seats were scattered across the plane. Siobh had 3 seats to herself which she took advantage of and slept across. On the other side of the isle I also had 3 seats to sprawl out in!
The bird hit the runway and we were soon in and out of the hour queue for immigration.
2pm and absolutely starving we heading for the next food outlet in sight: Subway - an expensive $20!
Full of footlongs, crisps, and Fanta we made our way to our next form of transport, ironically the subway.
Subway line to the metro line got us to the train line. It's 4pm and we head to the now familiar Bangkok train ticket office. The next train is full so we had to wait until 7.30 to start our journey south.
Tea and cakes helped pass the time and when it was we went and found our cabin for the night.
Cabin 10, seat 15 and 16 was to be our hotel room for the evening. We checked in and made our self comfortable. The set up on this train was different to the previous sleeper train we had been on. 14 double seats transformed like origami into bunk beds and the carriage quickly became a dormitory. Curtains provided each bed with privacy and darkness.
We ate dinner in the restaurant carriage while the train made it's way out of Bangkok. The food was ok, the experience and atmosphere made it memorable.
We had been travelling for 12 hours and our bed would be continuing to travel as we slept.
In the morning we should be in South Thailand for tomorrow we meet Donna and Darren on Koh Samui!!
