Today started with a 7am alarm clock, the first alarm clock I think we've set since we got here, 9 days ago!
We were on our mode of daily transport by 7:30am and well away into our 8 hour bus journey.
As we stepped on the bus it was apparent that we were both going to struggle on this journey; a 16 seater rickety old bus with 19 Vietnamese passengers (lol)!
We are hushed to the back quickly quickly alongside the only other two white westerners.
After introductions and pleasantries shared, it turns out our new found friends are only from Oakhampton, Devon....! What are the bloody chances!
So we spend the next 5 hours out of the 8 chatting, getting to know one another, laughing, throwing up (the journey WAS that bad) and swapping stories.
The remaining 3 hours we slept.
After arriving in Dien Bien Phu in the late afternoon, the four of us; me, Olly and our new found friends Rob and Amanda, collected our bags and headed to all the nearest guest houses to compare and haggle for tonight's accommodation.
It was a unanimous decision on guest house #2; a brand new guest house right by the bus station ran by a Mr. Duc.
1 room - 2 double beds - 1 bathroom - 4 adults = £2.50 each person!!!
Dinner followed in the same style;
4 adults - 4 drinks - 3 hamburgers - 3 slices of cake = £3.60....for the whole bill!!!
What a bloody bargain! I am in my element!
Tomorrow = Laos; the second country in our trip :)
(P.s. The picture associated with today's blog is not actually our picture, I just haven't got a 'real' photo to blog right now. So excuse the copyright, and one of our own will soon follow.)
