The train came to a stop as we woke up. Luckily it wasn't our stop. It was 6.30am and we should have another 30 minuets to our destination. We came to and found that we were not as far south as we should have been at this point and that we were going to be a little later than scheduled.
Coffee in bed helped pass the time away during our delay. 3 hours later than planned we arrived in Surat Thani.
Off the train and we were soon shuffled into a cafe to wait for the bus to the port. 1 hour later the bus arrived.
The bus drove 10 minuets down the road to the company HQ where we were told that we would have to wait for another 2 and a half hours! It turns out that because the train was so late we had missed the boat and the next one would be at 4pm. People were not happy!
Eventually the bus took us to the pier (1 hour journey) and we boarded the boat for the 45 minuet ride to Koh Samui.
The high speed cattermeran was as designed; high speed, it skimmed along the surface of the very choppy Gulf of Thailand. The journey was rocky and it made many people sea sick, Siobh included. Siobh spent most of the 45 minuets with her head in a sick bag!
The boat arrived and we bargained a taxi to the north of the island. We decided to find a guesthouse in Chewang as it was the closest town to the airport for when Darren and Donna arrive later this evening.
10 guesthouses and hotels later we found The Loft guesthouse. It was a little more pricy than we were used to but it seemed that Samui was going to be that way!
It's 7pm. We left Ho Chi Minh a crazy 36 hours ago! We sat down for dinner and forgot about the past and looked forward to the arrival of D&D!!
Facebook messages were swapped, they had landed, 10pm a taxi pulled up, they were here!!!
Hugs swapped, bags dumped, and pub found. We all caught up with a few beers before eventually hitting the sack in the early hours of the morning.
