It's day #30 today; one month in, two to go!
We got up casually, showered and drank tea by the riverside while lounging in a hammock.
After checking out of 'Olly's place' we headed into Kampot town and grabbed an amazing breakfast! 3*boiled eggs and soldiers cooked to perfection with tasty real butter, 3 banana pancakes with chocolate, and a juicy local fruit platter. The deal breaker was the pot of tea, Twinnings English breakfast with fresh milk!!!
We jumped on the midday bus to Kep. Only an hour down the coast, Kep is a little seaside town with a small beach, but famous throughout the culinary world for its fresh crab and Kampot Green Pepper dishes.
Just as we entered the town of Kep we both spotted several really good looking guesthouse along the road side. One in particular called the Boathouse. Conveniently we met the owner whilst getting our bags off the bus. It was an easy decision to go and check it out.
It turned out to be perfect. Rooms from 8 dollars rising to 40 dollars provided a range of options. We went for private bathroom, hot water shower and fan, $10.
The house is a large concrete building with lots of open out door spaces for just chilling out. We have a pool table, dart board, badminton court, and a DVD room. 5min walk to the beach and 10min walk to the crab market.
Unpacked and settled in, we were hungry again (standard). It was Crab market time!
We eventually picked a restaurant from the dozen choices and sat down to see for ourselves what all the hype is about.
Sat on the back deck of the restaurant over the sea, 4pm and the sun is setting into the horizon. 3 Kampot green peppered crabs and 3 steamed crabs with Kampot black pepper and lemon sauce were smashed to pieces and picked for meat. The crabs are not huge so it takes some work to get to the meat, but once you get there it's really tasty stuff!
Full of crab we decided to walk the long way back to the guesthouse. Now following the shoreline we watched as the sun disappeared from another great day. We spotted Monkeys on the walk back and stopped in a shop and tried fried crickets and cookies with crickets. Surprisingly tasty and apparently full of nutrients.
Home early so we decided to check out the DVD selection. A DVD was found so we sat and watched a movie for a few hours.
A good end to a nice relaxing day!
