Travel musings from Sonia
I haven't seen this castle but apparently it's in East Sussex which was the area I was in yesterday. John and Susie had to drop off some of their Shetland sheep that they sold so we went for a drive towards the coast. It was a very warm day (I've experienced 5 warm sunny days in a row-wonderful!) and instead of going for a reasonably long walk like we initially thought we would, we had a very short stroll along a country lane under the shelter of some trees then spend a couple of hours in the shade in the garden of an old (well old by my standards-17th century!) village pub in Wartling having lunch-very nice! We then had a wander around the village and had a look in the Anglican church-really peaceful with lots of history. The first vicar preached there in 1373...a bit before my time!
We then headed for the coast but obviously lots of other people had a the same idea-plenty of traffic and at the coast the car-park (where you had to pay for the privilage. I'm very glad we don't have to do that at my favourite beaches around Dunedin and the West Coast and I hope I never have to!) was full to overflowing so we decided it wasn't worth it and headed back home. I did get a glimpse of the sea from the car window and earlier when we were walking in Wartling village so I can say I've seen the English Channel!
I leave this wonderful area later today and head up to London with my cousins. It's been really wonderful staying here-it's been great spending time with John and Susie again and their house is just amazing. So full of character and history. The woodlands around here are lovely with some grand old oak trees. Very peaceful and a great place to be when recovering from jet-lag and just wanting to relax...
