So, what did I do with my weekend?
Well.....
I ventured to Auckland, had a brief catch up with Tom in the England players' hotel lounge (dotted with other players doing similar things) before checking into our s***ty hostel and head to the England vs France quater final at Eden Park.
How bloody lucky am I, for my first international rugby game to be a world cup quarter final, England game!
Not only that but I had awesome seats and was lucky enough to get them for free!
They were easily category A tickets, but I dont know coz the space on the ticket that's meant to say that and the price instead just says England Team :oP haha
Honestly, I'm still beaming. I was so happy to be there. I'm so grateful for Tom for getting them for Marc and I. It was good seeing him again after all these years but a shame I didnt get to see him play.
Ah well, I'm sure he'll be playing for years to come yet!
Me and one of the students at work have already planned our trips to the 2015's world cup games!
So anyway, back to the game- boy was it intense sitting amongst people who knew the players and who's stay in NZ was determined by the outcome of the game.
Me and Chris Ashton's gf (who btw had beautiful hair) were willing the boys to win and equally sending bad vibes France's way when they were given penalties.
Unfortunately our powers didnt work too well but I will give us credit for one of the missed penalties by the French.
I probably should have worn my glasses to the game so I could've seen it all clearer, but ho hum.
One of the guys sitting behind me provided a running commentary then realised he was saying it outloud and apologised. I turned round to tell him I didnt mind and quite liked it, only to discover he was wearing a big secuirty pass with his picture on and informing me he was a player- Lee Mears.
You know whats wasted on me-the fact that although I really do enjoy rugby, I am useless at knowing who anyone is! lol
There was another player sat a few seats down from me who also had to climb over me to get out. He looked vaguely familiar but the team kit with his initials on the sides were a dead give away.
Utterly useless!
Sat next to Toby Flood's parents and yet only registered that on the walk into town. Apparently one of the Saturdays was sat behind me too. I REALLY should have wore my glasses!!!!!
Oooh and the other fab freebie I got was a bar of cardburys! Tom, in his miserable state watching the game was wolfing them down. Can you believe the England team has chocolate, snacks and drinks flown in.
Madness
Understandably the team weren't too happy after the game so we didnt end up going for drinks with Tom and the boys, as planned.
Ho hum, such is life!
The rest of the evening wasnt as a great as the day either.
It started off pretty well. Marc, his random new mate James and I went into town for drinks and were dancing like idiots and generally having a laugh. Then Marc invited some mousey girl to join us who he'd met a few nights before and wanted to touch up or whatever. Anyway it changed everything.
Neither lads were interested in talking to me anymore.
They went to the loo and didnt come back!
So being a little intoxicated, alone in a foreign cit and feeling pretty worthless, I did what I do best- I cried.
I didnt know what to do so I phoned Jay, who calmed me down a little and managed to find myself a taxi and get back to the hostel.
Pretty s***ty ending to a night out.
Guys really shouldnt leave girls on their own in a strange city!
Thats just not cool
I knew noone and had no real idea of where I was. It was pretty horrible.
I can handle it going into a situation like that alone, like last week in Queenstown but to be ditched like that was awful.
Sure I like to wander off on nights out but I dont think I've ever left a friend completely on their own, not in a city where they're not from and didnt know anyone!
I'd leave them with someone else dammit!
Anyway. No more of this to happen, unless Drew or Kai do it to me in San Diego and there will be damn trouble if they do, plus I'll have new Contiki friends by then.
I highly doubt Drew would do that to me. He is the wonderful one who put me in a tuk tuk in Vietnam and sent me home when I was too drunk to look after myself. He even walked alongside us to make sure he did take me back to the hotel.
What a good egg he is :o)
