Hello again everyone,
Hope we are all well and enjoying the new year!
After my big Christmas and New Year celebrations I was ready for a quiet couple of weeks working and getting ready to move on again. Not to be the case...
I have been working most days with the boys who seem to be growing up so fast! Everythime Im away, even for just a few days, when I come back they seem to be saying all these new words and growing a few inches taller!! Luca is due to start school in a coupel of weeks too which is a little scary for me and Im not even his mum!!
As some of you may know my Uncle Curly passed away last week (he was the original member of my family to move over to Australia, with his son Mike following on years later). Annette who I have been meeting up with regularly is his grand-daughter. He had cancer and had been suffering for a while, going into hospital on Christmas Eve. He was an amazing man, he was 96 years old and up until a few months ago he was driving around! Up until a few weeks before he was still doing things around the house...truly as inspiration. I was so lucky to have met him a few months earlier and share stories and photographs- memories I will treasure foreve.
So the funeral was on Thursday 13th January and I arranged to fly down on Thursday morning to Newcastle. As I am sure you have all heard, the floods had taken over most of Brisbane city by this time so the day I was due to fly all the public transport had stopped running! Luckily, Brett offered to drive me to the airport so I was still able to make my flight (as well as giving me the time off work) So I flew down early Thursday morning and arrived in Newcastle around 11am. Annette picked me up from the airport which was great as I got to see them all again (certainly going to miss not seeing them on a regular basis when I head further north- they are a very special family and have made my trip that much more special) and we headed back to East Maitland before heading to the Central Coast for the funeral.
The service was lovely- hearing all about Curly's life, all the things I didnt know. Mike and Annette both getting up and talking about Curly's life and achievements as well thier memories of him which was nice to hear- they both did very well. It certainly was a very special send off and one that I am sure Curly would have liked.
Afterwards, I met more of my aussie family including Mikes sister Pam and her husband Ray and thier children Trevor, his partner and thier baby Logan as well as Kieron. I was also able to go and see Auntie Bee's grave who was Curly's late wife (my Nans sister). Following this we all headed back to Mike and Leonie's house in Gwandalan, Lake Macquarie where I was able to get to know my new family a little more and catch up with Mike, Leonie and Karen.
The following day we were due to leaving heading up to Byron Bay via Coffs Harbour so all needed a goodnights sleep...
