Hey guys,
Hope all is well over there!
For those of you who read my last blog, you will know that I was at a bit of a lose end a few days ago. Well things change pretty qwuick over here- one minute you have a plan and the next minute you are dong something totally different!!
So now I am in Newcastle, which is about 3 hours north of Sydney. I got a job working here in exchange for free accomodation, so im working a few hours a day, either playing maid or taking the guests out on the town in the evening. Working well though as im living for free and most of my meals are free- oh and this internet time! so all is good!
I left Sydney on Tuesday morning after a few days job hunting not really going anywhere (although I have had 3 calls about a job in Sydney since I have been in Newcastle!! typical!). Monday night was pretty cool though as I made lots of mates in Sydney so we all went out for my last night- we went to a place called Scubar to play crab racing. Yes you heard right- CRAB RACING! It is exactly what it sounds like too- a load of crabs racing each other while all of us put bets on them. As you may or may not be able to imagine- it was awesome!! we had such a laugh!! (pics on facebook) Great but a bit sad to be leaving my friends!!
As I say I arrived in Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon, the sun was shining, my hostel is a 2 minute walk from the beach...but- there was no people!! As I had just arrived from Sydney I was waiting to share the sidewalk with a hundred other people that just werent there- and then i remembered where I was!!! It was so nice to be in a quiet spot- even for just a little while after the madness that is Sydney!!
When I arrived at the YHA I was pleasantly suprised to see a big country house, a listed building. so when I walked in it was like being in someone (rich person) house. All oldy worldy with creaky floors and beams and wooden staircase and stuff. Was nice! Even have a fireplace in my bedroom!! So anyway, I wandered around lovely Newcastle, down the main street and stuff. Then I found the Queen Wharf tower which is one of those tall building you go up to see the whole city- well I didnt realise this at the time but its 180 steps up to the top!! (and the same back down- thats like 360 steps!!) but the view was worth it!! You could see the whole of Newcastle, accross to Stockton! After that I head out with the guests for a game of bingo- whch I have to say was actually pretty crap!! But we did get free food after which made it worth it!! Met some people from my hostel and the others as well so it was good!
On Wednesday morning I started my new job which was cool- went round all the room, replacing sheets and stuff- playing maid!! pretty easy stuff! Was done by midday so afterwards I headed to a place calleed Nobby's lighthouse- which is kind of on a headland in the corner of Newcastle so I waked all the way along the harbour side towards it- saw jellyfish everywhere in the water! I walke round to where the port was andwhen I got to the lighthouse I aw that it is actually a restricted area which was rather annoying after walking all the way there. However there w a walkway around the lighthouse which I followed and actually took me to this walkway out into the sea . There was a big warning isigtn saying you can get washed away by the waves and stuff but I ouldnt resist!! I walked all the way to the bottem and other than some nicely and carefully placed rocks there was nothing there- apart fromt he most stunning view of Newcastle beacj and the oil ships out in the midle of the sea. While I was sitting there I spotted a wild sea playing in the sea while the waves were crashing up on the rcks- they are so funny- love showing off!! So I must have sat there for like an hour watching the seal and the view before I left!! I also spotted loads of Pelicans today too- just chilling on some wood. Pretty cool though!! That evening we headed down to a pub called the great northern and had a nice pasta dinner which was free!! flollowed by a musuc trivia night which we did ok at!! Met loads more new pople and this really hot guy so wasnt a bad evening!! although he was leaving that night which wasnt so great!! :o)
Yesterday I worked until midday and then decided to head down to Newcastle beach which is about 2 minutes walk from the hostel. Stayed there until about half 3 thinking I didnt want to stay in the sun too long as I will burn and the land of Oz does have the highest rate of skin cancer for a reason. So after abouyt 2 hours I headed backfeeling a lot more chilled out after laying on the beach. HOWEVER a few hours later- OMG was I burnt!! The whole front of my body was like a lobster- even thorugh 30+ suncream!! Couldnt believe it- so much for being careful!! I thought I was behaving with a few hours- obviously not!! Its only spring here too! can you imagine summer!? Anyway, I am getting over that as we speak!! Last night we went to a place called the brewery which a a poular drinking hole here. Has a (FREE) BBQ followed by another night of trivia - which we came 3rd in!! whoop whoop! and we evn got a free round of drinks for being the fastest!! result! After that we stayed for the live music and they had a great band on which I had to tear myself away from to come home as it was getting so late!! lol
Today, I didnt achieve much!! thanks to all my room getting up at stupid hours I didnt sleep well!! So after I worked today I went back to bed and decided to have a lazy day- i am on holday after all!! so I havent done a lot atall- just relaxed!! Having the evening in tonight as well to recharge the batteries!!
Think this weekend ill be meeting up with Annette and the kids and off somewhere!
Maybe once my sunburn has gone away ill head back to the beach and try some surfing! (Newcastle is well known for is good surfbeaches!)

Daddy Hey wanderer Saw the crab racing pics on Facebook, I told you them Aussies are mad...! It is a different kind of Newcastle over there I bet! The hostel looks lovely, that is my kind of building. The staircase reminds me of Marilyn and Peter's hotel in Bournemouth... As auntie Sandie said it is getting chilly over here, if the temperature drops much more I will have to burn David's furniture to try a keep warm. I am off this week and all being well I will be taking Steffi down to Dorset for a few days, she wants to go to Corfe Castle on the steam train again (only done it about 6 times) Shame on you getting sunburnt, that is exactly the sort og thing you would never catch me doing I am far too careful for that Love you always..... Daddy xxxx
