Day 9, 13 July 2012, Arrival at Wildlife Camp, just outside the border of South Luangwa National Park - Having taken 4-5 hours to travel the 130 km from Chipata to the National Park over the roughest non-roads ever seen, we visited a tribal textile factory followed by the obligatory shop stop. Fortuitously the extras bag (food, snacks, everything that just won't go into the packs) had handed in its notice when we got to camp - so we bought a great new Hardie-proof bag. Many beautiful things and a pleasure to watch the production process and we thankfully had a legit excuse to buy something. Went for a village visit in the late afternoon. Would have meant more if it hadn't been the first bunch of happy, welcoming Zambians we've encountered thus far. Amazing how entrance fees perk people up. Finally an opportunity to make gifts of the koalas and school pencils we have carried since Sydney. Very, very grimy, but an interesting experience. Up early to chase animals tomorrow - pip pip.
