Day 5, 9 July 2012, Cape Town to Livingstone (Zambia) - We had a 7 am flight out of Cape Town today - connecting with 11 am from Johannesburg to Livingstone. Trouble with early morning flights (that is, anything prior to noon...) is that neither of us sleep for fear of sleeping in! Eventually got up at 4.30 am and made final preps prior to shuttle pick up at 5.30 am. Met a great bloke on the plane to Joburg who recommended we get out of the terminal between flights so we followed his advice and spent a pleasant hour or so in the lobby of the Intercontinental. Very swish. Arrived into Livingstone to the most efficient expansion of the tax base I've ever seen. Almost everyone visiting must pay a US$50 visa fee - and it was a full plane. Fairly sure it took longer to get through the visa queue than it did to fly here! But safe, sound and jumping into the back of a ute with seats welded on - sun on faces, wind in hair - Africa, Welcome the Hardies. (PS - we came from 8 degrees and flooding rain in Cape Town to a balmy 28 degress and brilliant African sun - staying at Fawlty Towers, Livingstone)
