Day 61, 3 September 2012, Pamukkale, Turkey. We arrived at 9.30 am this morning off our overnight bus and we are enjoying the new scenery immensely. Our hotel, the Dort Mevsim is a hopping little place - very busy due to the 20 Euro per double room price tag - including brekkie. Strangely enough the gorgeous little place is full. Being a little tired when we arrived we begged a breakfast and our room was made ready - one of the luxuries of the long distance bus system where everyone arrives around 9 am is most places have a flexible approach to check in time. We are fascinated with the lazy lushness of our surroundings - our room is on the first floor and the railings of all the balconies are covered with grape vines and massive bunches of table grapes. Makes the bunch of grapes we bought in town a bit superfluous. The pomegranate trees are laden with fruit and there are apple trees right next to us as we have dinner by the pool. Been a lazy day (surprise, surprise - had an afternoon nap). Went for a walk down town and planned our venture to the travertines and the Roman bath town ruins of Heiropolis. Something that tickled our fancy as we walked home was seeing the rushing spring waters everywhere we went - the water runs through covered channels in the streets and can be seen, clear as crystal, through grates in the ground and the sometimes gentle, sometimes loud rushing of noise is never too far away. In fact the pool at our hotel is regularly filled with the thermal spring waters of Pamukkale - but nights must be cold here.... nothing thermal today about the pool, but super refreshing.
