Days 70-71, 12-13 September 2012. The holiday continues unabated, but the pace has slackened off for a couple of days. I lurked in the confines of the Riad's courtyard and pool all day.... right up until we dined on chicken and vegetable tagine and a bottle of wine on the rooftop terrace. James felt the lure of the nearby souks once more and looking very posh indeed went exploring in his groovy new hat. Having spent all day reading, napping, reading and napping simultaneously and avoiding all forms of movement that require more than a 3 metre plunge pool, my mind at least was ready for a challenge in the early evening and we played a closely fought game of Scrabble. My second game ever. Today, the 13th, brought with it boundless amounts of energy and after breakfast we shot out of here like bullets out of a gun and went to explore the gardens around La Katoubbia - one of Marrakesh's landmarks. A particularly elegant minaret marks this mosque just off Djemaa el Fna. The highlight however is wandering through the surrounding gardens in ankle deep, lush grass and inspecting the many orange trees whilst being stalked by some of Marrakesh's many cats. Speaking of, today's cover photo is of our Riad's snarling, biting, big tough motorcycle guard cats. Obviously. After today's stroll in the gardens we walked along a section of the old city wall before coming back into the confines of the old town and exploring the Artisans' Complex. Essentially a Low-Fat Souk where prices, though higher, are marked on the goods and you can watch people working freely without being hit up to look, try, buy. Jolly interesting and certainly an efficient way to determine what prices should be in the souks. We made it back to the Riad by midday (phew! thought we were going to be late for our afternoon nap....). Dinner on the roof this evening will be Lamb Tagine with Prunes and Sesame. Speaking of dinner... it's just gone 4.30 pm - almost Wine O'Clock in everyone's language except Allah's. Cheers!
