Day 295, 25 April 2013, Shopping on the Magnificent Mile, and... Million Dollar Quartet! What a day! If we had $10 for everytime we've said that during our trip - heck - we could afford what we spent on the Avenue today. But it had to, just had to be done. We've lived in our winter gear for so long it's hard to believe summer is just around the corner. And not just any summer - a Miami summer in just a couple of weeks time - phew! And because we're sure Miami just won't be hot enough, we got a massive discount on a last minute cruise and can't be turning up to dinner in ski pants. So a-shopping we went and bargains were to be had - particularly at the Nordstrom outlet. Which was lucky - the prices at the regular Nordstroms looked more like phone numbers. Shopping took a lot longer than expected so we had 40 minutes up our sleeve when we got back to the hotel for a freshen up before heading out to one of Chicago's longest running musicals (5 years and it was a full house!) - "Million Dollar Quartet"- The night Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis got together at Sun Records and made incredible music together. It's the closest thing we can imagine to seeing these legends perform live - the musicians were superb, the acting even better and if we'd been any closer, we would have been in the band. Favourite songs from the show? Ring of Fire... Great Balls of Fire... Whole lotta Shakin' Goin' on. Always, but always, look out for the half price tickets crowd in any town - We bought our tix through Hottix which supports the theatre guild here in Chicago (similar to TKTS in London). Good cause, great prices, and remember - squeaky doors get oiled. Our original cheap seats were up the back right next to a school group of teenagers and cell phones. Arrrgh. Pained looks, pleas, and yippee - straight down to the third row, in front of the band. Made it even better.
