Natalie's adventures
I'm still in Melbourne!! Heres what I've been upto.
Wednesday evening - I got back to Melbourne around 6pm. I jumped in a taxi and headed out to St kilda. It was the scariest taxi ride ever. The engine kept stalling and the taxi driver very helpfully told me there was something wrong with his car, at which point I was expecting him to pull over and call me a new cab. Did he do this? No!!! We carried on along the extremely busy highway, the engine stalling and him restarting it roughly every 2 minutes. We must have just coasted most of the way. When we eventually arrived in St kilda, I gave him the address of the hostel so he dropped me off at the opposite end of the street. I considered just getting out and running off without paying but with all the luggage I have, I wouldn't have got very far!! I checked into my new hostel, dumped my belongings and went to see if they had a kitchen. In retrospect I should have looked at the kitchen in more detail before I decided to go to the super market and buy my dinner but I didn't! I was halfway through making a chicken curry when I found that the pans were falling apart, there were no plates and barely any cutlery. I did in the end find a plate, a knife and a spoon so I managed to eat my dinner. It wasn't untill later that evening that I realised you had to hire eating equippment from reception!
Thursday - Hardly slept last night because I was freezing cold all night. There was no heater in my room and all the bedding they give you is a sheet and a blanket. I wandered around St Kilda for a couple of hours, untill my feet were aching. As I had nothing else to do I went back to the hostel. I managed to get an extra blanket for that night and spent a couple of hours in the lounge writing in my diary.
Friday - Yet again, I hardly had any sleep although I was a little warmer with an extra blanket. I was just falling asleep (11.45 ish) when some girl started running around downstairs screaming. She screamed on and off for about an hour, I was so annoyed!! I considered going down stairs and slapping some sense into her with my thongs but I'd only just started to warm up so getting out of bed was not an option!! I got up early and checked out of the hostel a day early (I'd paid for 3 nights). I had decided to go to my next hostel a night early. After dumping my bags and doing a few jobs in the city, I went to the Melbourne Museum for a few hours. I also went to the Imax cinema (3D movies) to watch a film about the ocean which was good.
Saturday - I caught a tram to the Zoo and spent a few hours looking around. Can't say I was too impressed with the zoo, it had no chimps. What kind of zoo doesn't have chimps??? The gorillas seemed to be a bit shy and I only caught a brief glimpse of one and the four male lions were a bit boring, they were all sprawled out asleep on the grass!! I had myself a nice afternoon nap back at the hostel and then got ready to go to the rugby. The game was in the Telstra dome which was only a short walk from where I was staying. I was sat in the second row from the front so I had a really good view of England losing to Australia 43 - 18.
