Natalie's adventures
Saturday - I arrived in Melbourne at around 6am. I hung around the coach station for a while trying to get in touch with my hostel to see what time I could check in. I was going to take my luggage there and store it as check in is usually aroung mid day. When I got there at 7am, they said I could check in at 7.30am which was a relief because I was exhausted!!! I sat in the hostel lounge and then rang Mum to say Happy Birthday. I checked into my room and went staight to sleep for a couple of hours, I hadn't sleep very well on the coach. I met up with Michelle (from NZ contiki 2003) and her fiancee in the afternoon and we walked around the city for a bit. Then it was back to the hostel to get changed before meeting up with Michelle again and heading down to the Casino complex for dinner and a few drinks with her friends. Sunday - I had a bit of a lazy morning (nothing new there) and met some people in the hostel reception to go to the footy (Aussie rules). The hostel arranges for someone to take people to the game and explain all the rules and stuff. There were four of us altogether and we went to watch Melbourne Demons play St Kilda Saints in the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). I really enjoyed the game especially now I am starting to understand the rules a bit more. There was a great atmosphere and attendance was around 44, 000. After the game I went back to the hostel and watched a few movies, Sundays are dvd night. Monday - Today I went on the Neighbours tour. I did the afternoon tour which takes about 3 hours ish. We first went to the school which is supposed to be Erinsborough High. I didn't actually recognise it even when the tour guide got out the sign and hung it on the fence. Then we drove past the studios where most of the programme is filmed but you aren't allowed to go in and we didn't see any of the cast hanging around. Last stop was "Ramsay Street" or Pin Oak Court as it is actually called. I did recognise the houses but the street is much smaller in real life than it looks on tv. Took the usually tourist photos and then it was back to the hostel. At 6pm I was picked up along with Louise and Andy (friends travelling together) from the hostel and driven to St kilda for the Neighbours night. It takes place in The Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub every Monday night. There are competitons, a quiz and you get to meet three of the neighbours cast. As we were all staying at the same hostel, we agreed to share a taxi home and so I sat with them aswell. We met Toadie, Boyd and Stingray (I wanted to meet Karl Kennedy or Harold) and the guy who plays Connor was there aswell. Once the photos were taken, the stars leave and there is music untill 2am. I danced for a while with Louise and Andy and we left at 1.20am. Andy and Louise were hiring a car the next day to travel up the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide. Louise half jokingly suggested kidnapping me and taking me with them. They talked about it and agreed that if I wanted, I could actually go with them. I thought about their offer for all of 5 mins and decided to take a risk and go with them but not as far as Adelaide.
