After spending one night in Krabi we began our journey to Ko Pha-Ngan. We had already learnt that travelling in Thailand was never straight forward. Even though they tell you its only one air-conditioned bus its never true. In this case we were picked up from Krabi in a truck where all the travellers sat in the back in the open air with their backpacks. Needless to say it was very cramped and a little scary when going around corners. After this we were transferred to the port where we were crammed into a tiny minivan and taken to a place called Surat Thani. This journey took a couple of hours where we were transferred into another open truck that was spitting out lots of black smoke. Finally we were transferred onto a coach where we headed to the port at Donsak to get our 3 hour boat ride to Ko Pha-Ngan. When reaching the port we realised that the boats weren't really in good condition either. They were all pumping out smoke and it was a little scary boarding the boat on a rust ridden bridge that had huge holes in it where it had disintegrated. Not very encouraging when you know you have about 20kg on your back. The boat was also loaded with livestock, we heard pigs squealing all the way across to the island. Think they knew they would tomorrows breakfast for all onboard.
Anyway after not such an idyllic start we reached our beach bungalow on Ko Pha-Ngan. The place we stayed was lovely, each bunglaow had its own hammocks hanging outside very relaxing. We also had a brilliant view of the ocean and were surrounded by palm trees.
We had hoped to do more snorkelling on the island but we couldn't find any tours so instead took a couple of days to chill out and soak up the sun.
Ko-Pha-Ngan was definately more relaxing than Ko-Phi Phi which was very commercialised.Although we weren't there for the famous full moon party we still enjoyed our time there.
Next stop Bangkok, Tuk-Tuks here we come!
