After recommendations from a few travellers who had been in Thailand for months, we decided to head to Ko Lanta next, just south of Ko Phi Phi.

We checked in to the Ko Lanta New Beach Resort and tried to book ourselves onto a snorkel trip, but speaking to the English girl who ran the dive shop we were told that the South Thailand islands are not great for snorkelling, and that they are basically all geared up for diving.

Generally you can only go on an island trip that has one or two snorkel stops rather than a snorkelling trip, and she also said that this year has the worst visibility for years. It's so bad they have marine scientists here investigating!

As well as that we told her we'd just come from the Perhentians, which is where she, a professional diver, goes for her holidays! B******s!

We decided to give up on snorkelling, as the Gods clearly didn't want us to do it, spent two days by the pool and headed off to check out Ko Phangnan. If only we'd spent another few days in the Perhentians!
