Leaving the Perhentians we began another mammoth day's travel, starting with a taxi boat from the island onto the bigger boat (this time minus the 30 villagers), then a shared taxi with an Irish fella from Kuala Besut to the Thai border, then after border control a two kilometre walk (in midday heat carrying 20-plus kilograms) to the minivan station, then an uncomfortable minivan ride for a few hours to Hat Yai (tourists seem to have to sit in the back seat which generally doesn't recline or even sit up straight, so you are bent over and for a few hours and end up with a very sore backside), then another few hours in a minivan to Krabi.
All in all the journey took about 15 hours, and as Hat Yai only seems to serve rotten food we hadn't eaten since about 7am.
Arriving in Thailand was much as we expected, extreme heat, motorbikes everywhere, and when we went into the bank to get some cash a young Thai girl served us in a t-shirt which said in big letters, "I WANT SEX". Subtle!
Another girl on the boat over in the morning's t-shirt asked you to eat her cherry! Hmmm.
Anyway, we declined both offers and after arriving in Krabi tired and hungry headed to the Irish bar for a late dinner, only to be hassled by the paraletic German owner trying to get us to try some cocktails he had just discovered. By the state of him the main ingredients were petrol and lighter fluid, so we gave it a miss and booked our boat to Ko Phi Phi for the next day.
