After leaving Masterton we headed for Wellington. Here we would get the ferry over to Picton on the south island.
The weather in Wellington wasn't very good. There were severe winds and it was raining for most of the time we were there.
Our first stop was the Museum of New Zealand called Te Papa. This was very interesting and also free which is always a bonus when travelling the world!
The museum had various exhibits seemed like there was something for every taste, natural history, arts, Maori and Pakeha culture. Pakeha is a term the Maori's use for those people in New Zealand of European descent. There were some really interesting information about the origins of the first white settlers in New Zealand. Te Papa was a very interactive museum, there was even a house with an earthquake simulation, something Kiwi's seem to be used to!
Whilst in Wellington, we also headed up to MT Victoria to get a great view of the whole of Wellington. You could see the harbour and the city clearly.
On the 27th November we headed to the ferry terminal to get boat to Picton on the south island. It's hard to believe we have already been in NZ for over 3 weeks. We've seen and done some brilliant things in the North Island but are now ready to sample the south.
