It has been quite a while since we last posted a blog so I have decided we should catch up. It is irrelevant that this is my third attempt at writing the blog this week, I will complete it now!
Since we last posted to you all Andrew and I have both been successful in finding jobs. Andrew continued to work as an extra for a few weeks while I got a job as an Admin assistant with the Transport Accident Commission, or TAC. When anyone in Victoria has a Transport accident they can claim from the TAC for treatment costs etc and perhaps a large pay out if they are badly injured. It was really interesting working within the Company and I gained alot of experience. the people I worked with were really friendly and I really felt like a valued member of the team. Its always nice to feel appreciated!
Andrew's extra work started to dry up about the beginning of April so he got a new job with Foxtel - the equilalent of Sky Tv. he has been working in the call centre, whcih is not really his cup of tea, but he has enjoyed the experience I think! Around the time Andrew finished with The Pacific I got a call to do a few days as an extra too!! I was really surprised but excited to be able to get some time on set and see what everything is like. Unlike Andrew though I did not get to play Army. I got to be a civilian in a summer dress - in the middle of autumn!!! I had my hair done in 1940's style which was cool - I looked like my Nan!! it was a really cool experience and I thouragly enjoyed it and would do it again (in warmer weather!)
In the meantime quite a few events have occurred here in Melbourne. The Grand Prix took place in Albert Park - a stones throw from our apartment. we didnt go to the grand prix itself, but we listened to it from our window and tried not to melt in the heat (a lovely week fo 40 degree heat!)
We also had the International Comedy festival on. we only managed to see one performnace, which was ok, but it reminded us of the Edinburgh festival and brought back lots of memories. The festival and our time as extras has really re-ignited our passion for performing!
We have also just celebrated ANZAC day. It was incredible to see that everyone lined the streets to watch the parade and many attended dawn services as well to remember those who fought for them. the whole city, in fact the whole country joined together which was really something!
For all those Neighbours fans we have been on the neighbours tousr, which you already know about and not one, not two but THREE Neighbours nights!!!! Hahaha We are not really that sad that we felt the need to go on 3 occassions, but the first 2 were free events where we met Toady, Steph, Lynne and Paul Robinson! The official night was the final one that we attended -see if you recognise anyone in our pics!
There was 1 aspect of Melbourne that did not impress me. The TRAMS!!!! Only because the one time I dont validadte my ticket (because i forgot) the Tram Inspectors catch me and i am now facing a fine of upto $170!!!! I am not happy! Who knows what will happen though, Id like to get away with it if possible!heehee
We are about to move on to Adelaide, which we are looking forward to! Then we are off to Alice Springs to commence our tour of the Red centre and 'The Giant Pebble' that is Ayres Rock!
I think the highlight of our time in Melbourne has been the opportunity to work on The Pacific. It was definately the most rewarding experience we could have hoped for whilst on our trip, considering we did not plan to do any performing work!
I guess the other highlight has been being able to spend a couple of months here and work. It's given us the chance to meet some real Aussies and learna bit more about their lifestyles - plus we have earned some money!
The low point I think was being away from home for easter, Mothers Day, my Grandads birthday and other family events. Especially when we are staying in and not spending money! However, it has been 6 months now so we are more than half way through.
All we can say now is Roll On Adelaide and Ayres Rock!
Love to all at home
Love Emma and Andrew x
