Sawatdee ka!
I haven't written in ages because I was having too much fun with my mumsie and nobody leaves me messages anymore so I feel like I'm just writing to myself, it is very sad especially now that I am on my own again with nobody in the world to talk to.....Guilt trip is over now, I hope it worked!! Thanks to Grogs for all the messages though and reminding me that life at home is cold and too much like hard work!
I'm going to steal a bit from um's blog to update you on the end of our trip together....
"We had 2 days in Pai and then a full day of travelling to get us to Krabi, 3 hour mini bus and 2 planes, got to Krabi at 8 and just stayed there over night. Then got the ferry to Phi Phi island next morning . Neen was very impressed with me, I was struggling onto the gang way with my bag and a Thai guy jumped up and carried it on for me, when we got there he carried it off for me too, she said that never happens, one of the few advantages of being old I guess! I was blown away by the scenery, I've never seen anywhere so lovely. We booked into a really nice bungalow (concrete not bamboo) right by the sea, we met a girl who works at Sandhurst and spent the next 4 days there with her, she was a nutter, she hadn't experienced buckets before and was saying what a good drinker she was.......next morning, after 5 buckets the night before, she admitted that she had no memory of the night or how she got home, luckily Neen's trusty camera pieced the night together for her. On our third night there was a half moon party, that was pretty cool, I was a bit too old for it so was just sitting quietly with my bucket, the Thai waiters kept coming over for a chat with me which Neen found very funny.
Then it was nearly time for the fun to end. We got the ferry and then the plane to Bangkok on Tuesday, I wanted Neen to have a nice hotel for her first night back on her own so we booked her into a 3 star £30 a night hotel, when we got there they were over booked and moved her to a 5 star £100 a night hotel down the road for no extra cost, poor Neen was blown away. So at least i could leave her happy with a DVD and her plasma TV, i even fed her in an English pub before leaving."
So that was when mum left me and I basically watched a lot of films for 2 days. I was supposed to be leaving Bangkok the next day but there was no room on the train to Chiang mai so I had to stay another night in the fancy hotel, bummer! I went to Toni and guy to get my hair cut and it only cost 10 pound which I was very impressed with. Then I went to the cinema but the only film in English was Ironman which I had no idea about but it was pretty good. I was just there for the popcorn really! At the beginning of the film they have a one minute slide show with pics of the King and you have to stand up to show your respect to him, it was very corny. All the foreigners were very amused!!
I got the train to Chiang Mai last night and it was a much better journey than when mum was with me. There wasn't any scallies for a start and I managed to get a good sleep. Then when I arived I booked into a guest house and went straight to the Chinese embassy to sort out my visa but when I got there it was an empty building so then I was panicking!!
I went into a tourist shop and she said that they can sort one out in 1 day but the internet says is takes 2 weeks so that is much better but you have to do it just before you go because it starts the day you get it so I'll have to wait a month to do it.
My new plan now is to got to Pai for a few days then go to Laos for 2 weeks, Cambodia for 2 weeks, Vietnam for 2 weeks, then fly back to Bangkok to get my Visa and fly to China on 25th June. I like having a plan again and now I can chill out for a few days before the mental constant travelling begins!
Thats all for now, just off to get some Pad thai xxxx
