Hi Guys!
I made it to Chaing Mai in one piece. The night train was pretty cool. It was pretty dusty and old but it had clean sheets so wasn't too bad. It had huge windows so you could hnag out and see everything going past. We left at 10pm and didnt arrive until 1pm today. I managed to sllep from about 11 to 9 so I was feeling pretty good but the train was so noisy and hot I dont know how I did it. I think I just passed out!
When I woke up they came round with breakfast so I had an omlette which wasn;t too bad but the bread that came with it was covered in ants!! It was really nice to see the countryside and huge mountains as we made our way VERY slowly through it all. The train kept stopping for ages and sounded as if it was being attacked by elephants, god knows how old it is!
When we arrived we booked a room through a tout at the station and got a free lift to the guest house. Its pretty gross but only costs 1pound a night so can't really complain! The showers are totally disgusting though, basically just a crumbling room with a tap cpming out of the wall!
We have just been walking around today and trying to figure out what to do. I think I prefer Bangkok so far because it has a lot more going on. Everything is much cheaper here but the clothes dont seem as nice. I might go to the night market tonight and see if there are any bargains to be had.
Saw a huge lizard on the floor earlier which freaked me out, Peter enjoys pointing them out to me because he knows I will freak. And we saw a little lizard in the hotel earlier, I'm not brave enough to be ok with one in my room yet so hopefully they will keep away. Its really hard not to run up to the dogs here too because they are really cute but probably full of rabies. Peter hasnt had his jabs so he is prepared to throw me in his way to protect himself. Oh and he is from Galway by the way Grogs, its that acceptable?
We're going to go out and get drunk tonight I think. I might even straighten my hair. Its much cooler here so could get away with wearing trousers and I think it could be chilly tonight. We are hopefully going on our trek on wednesday for 2 days and 1 night at a tribe but we get to see 3 tribes altogether, plus a waterfall, hot srpings, ride on an elephant and a ride on a bamboo raft thing. It pretty pricey at 20quid but its with the offcial tourist comapny so we know we wont be abandonned in the jungle. I'm a bit scared!
Thats all for now really, fingers crossed for no lizard emergencies tonight but Peter's room is next to mine so if I scream he should be able to sort it out!
Miss you loads xxxxxxxx
