On Friday (7th) Gilma (owner of finca) kindly invited me to go to a flower show in Tunja. I know nothing about flowers or gardening but have seen lots of lovely flowers in Colombia so thought it would be worth going to. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a really good day out. We got the bus to Tunja (1 hour) and had lunch at a nice restaurant. First stop was the flower display section which included a wide range of things all of which included a flower arrangement, ranging from a mock up of a balcony with flowers to arrangements in vases to centre pieces on dinner tables. In each category there was a winner, second, third and fourth place. The entries came from various gardening clubs around Colombia. Lots of different and bright coloured flowers; there were some fantastic displays and I really enjoy wandering round them all. Next stop was the gardens where each gardening club had entered a small garden and there were different themes to the gardens, again very interesting and a good range of plants. The third section was miniatures as in mock ups of various rooms of the house that looked really real. There were also lots of different designs using flowers, in various categories, really imaginative, striking designs. There were more table arrangements too, more modern than the ones I'd seen earlier. Overall I was really impressed with the show and was good value for money at only 6,000 pesos (£2!).
