Thursday 28th June was the arrival day of my friend Anna for her 2 week holiday with me here. I had really been looking forward to it and knew it would be great to see her, catch up and do some travelling together :-) I went by airport transfer to meet her and we then returned back to San Pedro. Anna was impressed, as I had been, by the scenery as you drive through the Atacama desert and approached San Pedro. By chance our visit was timed just right to see the celebration of the festival of "San Pedro y San Pablo" so on the Friday morning we passed by the church service being held outside the church and then watched as the procession with the saints passed by around the centre, with some traditional dancing and music. We spent the afternoon wandering around, relaxing and enjoying the sun. In the evening we did a really interesting astronomy tour with an entertaining and knowledgeable French astronomer. The sky is so clear here and even though full moon was only a few nights away you could still see lots of stars. We saw the moon and Saturn though the telescopes, very impressive, as well as other stars and constellations. The only down side was it was so very cold, despite us wearing lots of layers and thermals! We decided we would start our 3 day tour of South-West Bolivia on Sunday so on Saturday morning Anna went to the museum while I went and booked our tour. Afterwards we walked to the Pucara (fort) which is about 3km out of town then at 3pm went on the 'Valle de la Luna' (Valley of the Moon) tour. I did this tour last time I was here but this time we did things in reverse order plus visited a salt cave. Scrambling through the cave was fun but quite tight spaces at times! Sunset at the valley of the moon was great, loved the changing colours of the mountains. Once back in San Pedro we had dinner then packed ready to leave Chile the next day to start our tour of South-West Bolivia……very excited!
