Cafayate
We decided that Sunday 9th July would be a quiet day as we had been on the move a lot and neither of was feeling that good with colds so we wandered around the nice town of Cafayate, did a bit of shopping, had a delicious lunch of different empanadas at 'la Casa de Empanadas' where they have flavours such as blue cheese and tomato. The next day we were torn between the vineyard tour that the hostel offered or seeing the parade for 9th July- Argentina's Independence Day. It sounded like we would be back in time to see some of the parade but unfortunately we got back just as it was finishing, but we did see the gauchos on their horses. The tours of the 2 vineyards were very brief and I didn't like the wines we tried, which left we wondering if I will be picky about red wine, like I am about rose! We had empanadas again for lunch then in the afternoon did a tour of the Quebrada de Cafayate where we saw yet more beautiful scenery- we visited various sandstone formations the Devil's throat, the Ampitheater, the Toad, the Obelisk and the Castles.
Salta
On the morning of the 10th we got the bus back to Salta. We had a wander around the town in the afternoon and had some afternoon tea and cakes! In the evening we went for dinner in a typical peña with live music. Afterwards we went to a bar and had a few cocktails but didn't stay out too late as we were both still suffering with our colds. Wednesday morning we went on the cable car, but there was quite a big queue so by the time we got up there we couldn't spend that much time as we needed to make sure we would get to the airport in time for Anna's flight at 3pm. Saying goodbye was sad as I knew it would be, especially as we don't know when we will have the chance to meet again. But I am very glad she was able to come and travel with me here and I really enjoyed it- a big thanks to you Anna for spending your holidays here :-) The next day I didn't do much, but did spend some time researching and thinking about my onward plans, like where next and should I or shouldn't I go to Buenos Aires?! It was also a bit strange to be on my own again :-(
