Today was another great day! I got up before breakfast and Skyped Dan on the beach which was lovely...firstly because I hadn't seen his face for a week and secondly because I was on a beautiful beach at 7am and it was hot already!
Breakfast was super! They had so much selection so of course I over indulged! (Don't worry mum I won't come back with a chalet maids bum again!). After breakfast we went by boat to a small Fijian village called Soso! They only have 400 people loving in the village but apparently this is the largest village on the Fijian islands, and of course they told us that it was the best! There were only 3 of us on this village tour so it was very personal. Our tour guide showed us around the village, everyone we came over and shouted bula to us, they were all so friendly and the children were delightful! We got to see the village hall which I thought looked derelict but they were very proud if it! I love how grateful they are for everything, I feel there is a lot of people in our country who take a lot for granted and expect a lot without working for it. In the village there were some ladies doing there washing in large tin containers outside their homes, there were others cooking (it seemed that all 'kitchens' were outside) and there were a small group of people renovating one of the houses. We were able to see the village school, they had a large grass area for the playing field, there were running tracks marked out, they has obviously been marked free hand because they were a little uneven. We got to see in some of the classrooms but it was a Saturday so we didnt get to see the lessons. I was surprised by the lesson plans I saw on the wall. Instead of the typical lesson ideas for young children in England they had lessons to teach the children how to store food properly, personal cleanliness, how to cook, all very practical lessons which in regions where they have very little I can imagine practical lessons being great help. We visited the village church which was very pretty, it had beautiful woodcraft inside and brightly coloured windows, this was by far the nicest building of the village! It was a methodist church, they had one priest whereas another 4 villages have to share theirs! There were about 8 ladies selling their handicrafts, I bought a few bracelets, it was nice to see where my money was going. Our tour guide took us to her house to show us her two children who were just adorable! The youngest was 5 months old and just beamed at me and the other was 2. She was so cute and kept singing songs to us!
When we later arrived back to our island we topped up our tans a bit more before lunch!
This afternoon has been very chilled, more sunbathing and reading! This evening at dinner we were served 4 course! All of which were delicious, especially dessert which we were allowed 2 of!
