So today we flew to Fiji! It was a funny feeling leaving Los Angeles on the 22nd and arriving in Fiji on the 24th after a 11hour flight! The flight was lovely! Fliss and I had two seats next to each other with no one else. We were told that seatbelts needed to be on for the entire journey which of course worried me because of turbulence but the flight was very smooth! I was very impressed by the food! They gave us chicken curry, cheese, crackers, salad, fruit salad, chocolate brownie and twix! One film later and we were both asleep! The flight seemed to go pritty fast so we must have slept a lot!
Arriving in Fiji airport was fab...there were guitar players and singers to greet us!! The airport was tiny so we were out of there in 30 mins. We shared our transfer with a guy who lived in Auckland, his father was welsh, his mother was from Nairobi and he had studied for his degree in England but was only in Fiji for a few hours. He was heading to a place called tonga to finish filming a documentary!
The meeting of funny people was not going to stop there today! Once we got to our hostel we were approached by a little man called John who had a fair few teeth missing. He asked if we had ever tried fresh coconut...I said that I hadn't so he offered me a taste....I thought he was being generous but then we had to pay $5...I don't even like coconut! That'll teach me for being a sucker!
After dumping our bags in our room we headed to the beach. On the way I got accosted by a fat old man who we had seen in our shared dorm. This man forgot to look at my face when he was talking to me, instead he looked up and down my body (gross!)....he was fat with no tshirt on and had peanut butter sliding down his face! After this meeting we tried to see if we could leave for the islands a day early....once we had got over sharing a dorm with that creep we realised its only one night so we should stick it out! At the beach we met a lovely American girl called Ayla. We ended up spending the day with her and another girl, Emma (from Sweden). After getting a bit crispy in the sun we headed into Nadi town. I was surprised to see so many Indians! They tried to pull us in and make us buy all of their tat! I bought two bracelets and was very happy with the price I got them for!
We headed back to the hostel for more sunbathing! All the Fijians are lovely! Everyone says hello and asks how you are! That evening I went for a run along the beach and did sit ups on the beach (shocked myself at this! Now I need to keep it up). We met 4 more girls who had already done the island hopping tour and had all had a great time! It is so easy to meet people! Everyone is so friendly! Now it's 8pm and I'm in bed! Little sleep over the past 36 hours is catching up!
Island hopping starts tomorrow! Eek!
P.s creepy fat man is in bed keeping himself to himself phew, just need to remember its only for one night!
