Woke up at 9, finally in time for free breakfast, which this time turned out to just be toast and some fruit, bit of a disappointment. Was ready to leave by 9:45, but sophie wasn't quite, checked out then headed out to the killing fields at 11:30-12.
Long tuktuk drive out there and had some lunch on arrival. Walked around the fields, another very dark day. Absolutely amazing audio guide to take us around, with lots of real life accounts from survivors and instigators. Horrific that pol pot basically got away with it (1/4 people died!!).
Went back to hostel and changed to a cheaper one, first time with no ac! Just a fan above each bed. Ended up napping for a while, then beds in Cambodia are much more comfy than Vietnam!
Then headed out for some dinner at 5ish, found the happy pizza place, I had one but soph had sad pizza (just pizza!). From then on evening was great, wandered up the river and stumbled on an amazing night market, even bought something, think it might be the first buy in a market for me!! Then had food in the market food area, sat on mata on the floor with stalls all around, pretty amazing. The market was so nice because they didn't haste you at all, even if you went in and started touching stuff in the stall, so different to Vietnam.
Wandered back along the river and found a travel agent to sort our travle to siem reap, unfortunately cant get a boa because of the time of year :-( so just booked a bus. After we went to a nice bar for a few beers, then headed to a rooftop bar in a hostel (wish we'd stayed there as it was very nice!!) which we'd been given a flier for. Real nice, lots of seating options and pool tables :-) soph is getting better I only won 2/3 games :-/ met some westerners (English, American and Spanish) who live in pp ad all teach english. interestingly they said not many travellers come through, almost all go to siem reap and miss out pp. So we chilled and drank with them on the rooftop bar, eventually got tired and s. Headed back to the hostel at 1:30ish only to find it closed and shuttered. I rattled on the shutters and ended up waking up a Cambodian guy sleeping in the foyer to let us in, he did not look to pleased!! In bed for sleep by 2:00.
