Today was a big one, we fitted in so much am so tired it's not funny!
First of we visited the blue mosque. It is the only mosque with 6 tall towers around it, all the rest have only 4. When we arrived we had to take our shoes of, the carpet was red with lines of darker red flowers all in a row, that is to help the men when they preyed. The women had chambers behind, they were not allowed to be near or infront of the men as it breaks there concentration. It was very dark in side with beautiful lanterns hanging from the celling. It had lovely moseque all over.
Our second stop was Hagia Sophia, church of the holy wisdom. It was absolutely beautiful, we were both blown away. it started of being a christian church, then a mosque and now it's a museum. It has all these tiny glass tiles making a mosake with gold. It is huge and has beautiful stained glass windows and paintings and beautiful craftsmen ship with marble pillars. We were a bit disappointed we needed a lot more time there.
We had a demonstration of rug making, I don't particulary like Turkish rugs but I now understand why they cost so much, they are all hand made with beautiful silk and wool. We tried there national drink, lions milk it tastes a lot like ouzo, you mix it with water, it's 43 percent alcohol wow!! It's nasty!!
We visited this huge palace, Dolmabanche palace, it had heaps of jewels, religious artifacts, the sultans harem. Man it was packed way to busy for me but the jewels and crowns where amazing!!
Our las point of call was the spice market, that was great, so busy though. It had many exotic herbs and spices, so full of energy.
Well we both loved Turkey will have to come back and do it in our own time as there is a lot to see and do, but next time there will be no time wasted on rugs lol!!
