Well what a huge day!!! We got up at 5.15 to be left by 6 to join the mile long line for the Vatican. It was pretty hot standing there and I was a bit over all the god stuff, but it had to be done. The bloody pope kept us waiting for an hour and a half lol!! Well he wasn't even there he was on holidays. We hired audio guides instead of going on the tour because we didn't think we could stay there for the three hour long tour, but as it turnes out we were there that long any way, b*****, every one said the tour was great. The Vatican is just a huge museum with artwork from all over the world. The sistine chapel is also there which was a pretty cool church it is one of Michelangelo's master pieces. It was a lot more sedate compared to the paintings in the monks chapels in Greece. It was funny you had to be quiet and not allowed to take photos, people where getting cameras taken off them and escorted out for taking pictures and told to be quiet every couple of minutes lol!! Also in that area is St peters Basilica and St Peters square, this is where the pope comes out on the balcony and blesses every one and gives his speeches. You could just imagine it being packed with catholic's preying to there good at Easter, it would go nuts!!. The Basilica is a beautiful church and it's just massive, even though we have seen heaps of churches this was still worth having a look at.
At the train station we met up with Elaine (Canada), Sara (Aus), Tara (Aus) and Carley (Aus/Croatia) they were headed to the Spanish steps for lunch so we thought we would tag along. As we got there we decided just to get a cuppa from that awesome shop then get on another train in the direction of the coliseum. We got a piece of pizza each where you buy it by the weight it was yum, the power went out why we were eating it was pretty funny lol!!
We stopped off and looked at the palatine hill and roman forum before we went into the colosseum, it was lots of ruins and a good view of the colosseum. It was pretty hot though.
We ended up taking a tour of the colosseum from what looked like a gladiator him self, hope I got a good picture of him! He was really good, we learnt heaps about what went on like for half time entertainment they used to get a women to fight a midget or a dog to chase a porcupine lol! They had a weird sense of humor. They also had holes in the seat so they don't have to go to the toilet and miss anything, gross!!, although that would come in handy watching the Footy at the MCG lol!!
After the colosseum we met up with Mark(auz), Karen (auz), Pan (Auz), Nathan (auz), Sam (Canadian), mick (Auz) and Jamie (auz) and headed out for dinner. We went to this place that has over 200 different spaghettis and bottles of red wine for 7 euro, it was great, you could get this plate where you could get 3 different verities, which is what we all did, my favorite was the lobster paster then the vodka flavor yum!!.
