Today we wanted to go to the gym at the hotel to get some controlled exercise. First we popped downstairs to buy Vincent some shorts. Then off we went for a work out. Vincent did his usual thing while I did 10 minutes on a reclining bike, my physio and then tried not to go backwards on the cross trainer for a few minutes. After that I went for a swim in our roof top, 11th floor, pool but it was pretty cold so I only did a few minutes before getting out again. We went off next to try and find veggie food for lunch. We came across a pretty little cafe after not too long and although their menu again had nothing on it without meat the lady was happy to make a couple of the dishes and just not add the meat. I had Thai green curry rice which was delicious. It was very hot and spicy and was green in colour and had two ingredients, one looking slightly like lime slices and the other like large peas, that I couldn't identify. Vincent had mushroom noodles and although after China I don't hate mushrooms I'd still rather not eat them. We spotted a laundry next to the cafe but typically I had already tried to do our washing in the bath at the hotel so it was a bit late.
I wanted to try and explore a new direction from the hotel so we went off in the other direction to usual, but we only really found more shops and not the elusive sky train station we wanted. Even though it seems like the sky train doesn't really go anywhere we want to I still want to go on it just for fun.
This evening we decided to go clubbing. We researched where to go in the book and got ready then went to the front of the hotel. We were immediately accosted by a guy who along with our porter insisted that the club we wanted was no good and we should go with him to one of two clubs. The first was 20 Baht away the second 40, so we opted for the first and got into his rickshaw and lo and behold he drove us round to the back of our hotel where Beyoke hotel 2 is and said 'here we are!' Vincent laughed at him and said he wasn't going to pay to be driven next door and when we looked in there wasn't even anybody there. We thought about getting our own taxi but he was insistent that 'Hollywoods' was much better and that 40 Baht was a great price. He drove like a maniac quite a long way and we saw a whole group of clubs teeming with people so decided it wasn't such a bad idea after all. According to the guide book the rickshaw drivers will take you anywhere but the place you want to go - that seemed to be the case. Also there was no point in either of us doing our hair as 60mph in an open rickshaw is enough to ruin anyone's do!
The club was quite good and our entrance got us two bottles of Smirnoff Ice each and a little guy to pour it for us. The problem was a similar one to China, they had covered the dance floor with tables. After a few hours we went out and looked at the other clubs in the area. One was pumping out some groovy music so we went in, but again you could only dance around your table. We made friends with a Thai girl who wanted us to dance with her, but after one drink we decided that we had done clubbing for the night and got a taxi back home. The taxi was more pricy than the rickshaw, but not much and he had AC and no rushing breeze.
