As we arrived so late we got up at 9.00am for breakfast. The buffet was amazing although there is a bit of a shortage of veggie food. We sat right at the window and looked out on Bangkok from 43 floors up. The day was lovely and sunny.
We didn’t want to venture too far on our first day as my legs were still wobbly from the great wall (I was wearing my great wall T shirt all day!) We discovered loads of little shops selling clothes and gifts all round the hotel and then realised that the first 5 floors of our hotel were a kind of whole sale and retail market. We looked around for ages and spotted loads of cool things, but chose not to buy anything yet, just asking prices and being firm about not buying so we could get an idea of how much to bargain when we did come to buy. We wandered round the hotel in a big square stopping for lunch at a little restaurant, which had nothing veggie on the menu but were willing to do us a couple of dishes without meat. We drank smoothies which were delicious but full of ice that was no doubt on the list of things not to eat in Thailand – I think we are hardened dodgy water drinkers now, or at least I hope so. On the way back we spotted an Indian area where there was another market so we ambled round that then decided to go back.
We needed to relax so put on the Asian HBO and half watched two terrible movies then fell asleep.
