Today we were headed for Byron Bay, a famous hippie area known to all campers around Australia as a good place to pause for a while. Today we decided to ‘do Sydney’. We were considering staying in Manly a while as it was so nice but today we wanted to drive to the Opera house over the Harbour Bridge. The Opera house was very impressive and we had a long walk around it taking lots of photographs of it and ourselves next to it. We slept well and were woken at 8 by the builders so decided to get up and go down to the beach for showers. We packed a rucksack with everything we needed and headed of down the coastal path to the shower block. It was open when we got there so I went for first shower, but it was freezing cold and salty water! Yuk. After a while of cursing and jumping in and out of the water I finally managed to wash my hair and get dressed in some clean clothes, it was worth it...

We got up at sunrise this morning to look for penguins and discovered that we had parked at a whale watching point. We watched for whales and penguins for a while but couldn’t see any so drove down the cliff for a closer look and a walk on the beach. I took some great sunrise pictures here and it was lovely to be up so early walking along in the sand, even if it was rather chilly. Sadly we got back to the van to find that it wouldn’t start! This morning the sun rose about 6am so as usual I did too. As we had an early night Vincent was also up so after a quick shake for breakfast, loo break and a disposal of rubbish we were on our way again.
