So we were up early and stopped off at a hike. New Zealanders love their hikes! We were at an old gold mine and had to cross swinging bridges (scared the life out of me!) and travel through tunnels over the railway lines that were used in the mine. It was really cool actually and a lot of good photos although a lot of them are on my camera. I think we were there about an hour and then made our way to book on to the black water rafting at the waitamo caves.
We had to book in and sign away our lives and then we were taken to the hostel. I was in the 2pm group, we were in groups of 12 so we were first to check in and the 6 girls were in a room together. This hostel was like luxury with no bunk beds ( I slept like a log) so we dropped our stuff in the room and straight to the caves.
Our guide was called scuba and Alex came with us a bit later. We had to squeeze ourselves into wetsuits, by far the worst thing I have done so far in New Zealand! And then we set off to the cave. We had to travel though the cave by walking and rubber rings. So we had a couple of practices and practice jumps as we had to jump from waterfalls in the cave and off we went. It was a bit scary, pitch black in a lot of places but the glow worms were awesome and it did look like stars. We were in there for about an hour and a half and the water was cold. By the time we came out I was shaking a little bit. We then came back to the base and had a hot shower, soup and a bagel. And that was Tuesday done. With all the walking, caving and swimming we were all knackered so it was an early night for us. Caving was amazing and I'd definitely recommend it. Another jam packed day! next stop Rotorua.
